Climate Technology Initiative Capacity Building Seminar for CEE/FSU Countries

Climate Technology and Energy Efficiency - Dissemination - Best Practise - Experience

-Seminar Proceedings - Ostritz, Germany, 5 - 9 December 2001

Ten years have almost passed since the Rio World Summit. United Nations’ Climate Convention has existed for the same period of time. International awareness of the negative environmental impacts of air emissions has been growing. Energy produced by fossil fuels is the main source of the harmful emissions linked to climate change. Therefore, focus has for a long period been on the creation of a more sustainable supply and use of energy in our societies. Substantial efforts are needed in energy efficiency and supply of renewable energy. This has been the main message of several international agreements, also emphasized in the Kyoto Protocol from 1997.
