Antifouling biocides in German coastal & inland waters – How reliable are exposure prognoses of EU-scenario models for marinas?
Reliable data regarding the amounts of leisure boasts and number of berths in marinas are needed for the EU biocidal products regulation of antifouling products. Since for Germany such data are lacking, a national survey was initiated by the German Federal Environmental Agency.
Reverse Innovation
The joint UBA-GIZ brochure „Reverse Innovation – Rethinking Urban Transport through Global Learning“ looks into the potential of “reverse innovation” in the urban transport sector. Ten interesting innovations from developing- and emerging countries were selected, that offer relevant impulses for cities and towns in Germany.
PIWI and the plastic soup
The Pool-Cleaning-Robot PIWI (Pool-Intelligent-Water-Inspector) PIWI 3.14 keeps his pool clean and ship-shape and is quite happy. However his friend, Wilma the cat, confuses the issue when she tells him what the next stream looks like. The two of them get on their way to sort things out.
National Implementation Plan of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Stockholm Convention
In the National Implementation Plan, Germany describes the measures taken to implement the obligations under the Stockholm Convention.
Identification of Priority Topics in the Field of Sustainable Chemistry
To enable the ISC3 a quick start in its substantive work, the customers (UBA/BMUB) have commis-sioned the drafting of three studies. The objective of this study was to identify to identify priority top-ics, i.e. technical solutions, concepts, business models etc., in the field of Sustainable Chemistry.
Sustainability initiatives and approaches in the chemical sector
To allow the ISC3 a quick start to its substantive work, the clients (UBA/BMUB) have commissioned the drafting of three studies. The objective of this study was to create a knowledge base by mapping the most relevant initiatives/approaches in the field of sustainable chemistry.
Immobilisation of nitrogen in context of critical loads
Estimating the nitrogen immobilisation under steady state condition is a crucial part of the critical load calculation. This report contains the results of a literature review focusing on this topic and the description of a new method to estimate the nitrogen immobilisation.
Visitor Guidelines for the Antarctic
You are visiting the Antarctic for private or professional reasons? You are about to discover the “White Continent” for the first time or you are planning a revisit? We wish you a pleasant journey – and would like to contribute with these guidelines to a safe and environmentally sustainable stay in the Antarctic.
Synergies and Conflicts between Climate Protection and Adaptation Measures in Countries of Different Development Levels
How can developing countries maintain development targets, cope with unavoidable consequences of climate change and contribute to climate protection in parallel in a warming world? This question calls for the derivation of climate resilient future pathways that consider the synergies between adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development action.
Indoor air quality after installation of building products in energy-efficient buildings
In this research project the indoor air quality in energy-efficient buildings has been investigated with regard to odours and volatile organic compounds. The original aim of the study was to investigate the indoor air quality of energy-efficient retrofitted buildings using the example of the German Environment Agency’s (Umweltbundesamt, UBA) Bismarckplatz office building in Berlin.
Tomorrow‘s Cities
Big cities are by definition exciting, diverse and vibrant, but also loud and crowded, claustrophobic and exhausting. How do we want to live in our cities in the future? Is it at all possible to create an urban environment with environmentally friendly transport, low noise levels, green spaces and a functional mix? Yes, such a city is possible.
Modelling and assessment of acidifying and eutrophying atmospheric deposition to terrestrial ecosystems (PINETI2)
The report describes the modelling of nitrogen and sulfur deposition to terrestrial ecosystems with the LOTOS-EUROS model system for Germany during the years 2009-2011. The method of the modelling and the parameterization of the model are described. The results are assessed and compared to other relevant data.
