The goal of this study is to provide background information for the determination of Best Available Techniques (BAT) with respect to integrated environmental protection within the electric steelmaking industry to support the Technical Working Group Iron and Steel (TWG, cf. below).

A central issue for the protection of human health and the environment will also be the reduction in future of the new inputs of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans, generally designated dioxins, into the environment.
