    FW-I-7: Forest condition

    A line graph shows the mean crown defoliation in percent for the total forest and the tree species spruce, pine, beech and oak for the period 1991 to 2017. For beech there is a significant increasing trend, for oak it is quadratically decreasing. There is no trend for the other tree species and the total forest.

    WW-I-7: Water levels in lakes

    The line chart WW-I-7 ’Water levels in lakes’ indicates the annual deviation of the water level in lakes in two regions – the North German Plain and the Alps-and-foothills for the years 1961 to 2021 from the water level in 2014 in centimetres. The water level of the lakes in the North German Plain receded significantly by 2021 compared to 2014; ultimately the deviation amounted to –20 cm compared to 2014.

    Indicator: Bathing water quality

    A graph shows good and sufficient bathing water quality levels for coastal and inland waters (1992 to 2024). Bathing water quality increased significantly, especially in the 1990s. The target value of 100 % bathing waters with at least sufficient quality was almost reached in 2015 and has been constantly at a high level since then.

    The stacked column chart in the illustration BAU-I-4 entitled ‘Heavy rain in residential areas’ shows the percentual proportion of settlement area where heavy-rain warning level 3 (tempests) was exceeded in terms of the number of hours. Five categories have been illustrated: 1 to 3 hours, more than 3 to 6 hours, more than 6 to 12 hours, more than 12 to 24 hours, and more than 24 hours. The highest category is represented only in a few years.

    FW-I-5: Damaged timber – extent of random use

    The illustration FW-I-5 ’Damaged timber – extent of random use’ contains a biaxial chart. The chart shows the proportion of random use compared to the logging total in per cent as a line, and the proportion of damage causes compared to the total of random use in per cent in terms of stacked columns. A differentiation is made between causes such as wind/storm, insects and other causes. The proportion of random use decreased steadily until the turn of the century, amounting to roughly 10 per cent in 1999.
