Relative distribution of the environmental impacts of the data centres by subsystems

The graphic shows how the subsystems building technology, servers, data storage and network of three data centers contribute to the overall environmental impact. The environmental impact is shown for the impact categories of water, greenhouse gas emissions, cumulative energy consumption and abiotic resource consumption. In all impact categories, the servers are responsible for the largest share of the environmental impact at around 45 percent to around 57 percent. The share of building technology is lower.
