The German Environment Agency (UBA) conducts the German Environmental Survey for Adults, GerES VI (2023–2024) to collect information on the burden of the adult population in Germany with environmental pollutants. Samples of tap water, urine, blood, house dust, and indoor air are analysed along with information acquired by questionnaires during a home visit.
Every single participant helps in the collective effort to determine the impact of the environment on children and adolescents in Germany. He or she is playing an important part in helping to protect future generations. Upon request, participants can obtain their personal test results – free of charge.
Unfortunately not. All the children and adolescents selected to participate are representative of their age group, sex and location. They were selected according to a statistical method which aims to give the best possible reflection of the German population in this age group.
The average time required for sampling and the questionnaire is about 90 minutes.
There is no separate evaluation for the individual screening sites because the randomly selected cohort of children and adolescents is not representative of the individual screening sites.
The Federal Environment Agency decided to conduct a special GerES on children because they must be considered as a risk group for adverse health effects caused by environmental factors
Chemicals, mould or noise – people are exposed every day to potentially harmful influences from the environment. In the German Environmental Survey, the Federal Environment Agency is investigating the exposure of the population to pollutants and other environmental effects such as noise. It is thereby contributing to the protection of people and the environment.
