The pie chart shows all environmental crimes recorded by the police in 2016, by individual offences. In 2016, 7.528 cases, i.e. 38 % of all environmental crimes, were criminal offences involving the unauthorised handling of waste (§ 326 except paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code). Crimes under the Animal Protection Act accounted for 33 % of the total with 6.527 cases and water pollution for 13 % with 2.563 cases. They were followed by significantly smaller numbers of cases of soil pollution, crimes under the Federal Nature Conservation Act, crimes under the Chemicals Act, cases of unauthorised operation of facilities, and illegal waste shipments (§ 326 (2) ot the Criminal Code).
