ENDS Europe, the news service for EU environmental protection, published its first Impact List in October 2023. It includes 30 EU politicians and experts whom ENDS Europe considers to have had the most influence on EU environmental policy in the last two years – and German Environment Agency (UBA) President, Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner, is one of them.

The world-renowned sustainability researcher, Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner, has been at the helm of the German Environment Agency – Germany’s central environmental authority – since 2020. As a scientific agency, the UBA draws on its research to advise not only the German Federal Government, but also many European and international organisations, and also plays an active role in national, European and international networks. This is because the causes of sustainability and environmental issues are diverse and mostly global, which means that solutions and strategies must be identified at national, European and international level.
