NADNAC – National Assessment of Defence Needs and Costs for flood and coastal erosion management

The project examined the needs and costs for coastal and flood protection in the United Kingdom as a basis for the adjustment of national expenditure (2004) for coastal protection in the United Kingdom. For this, the study builds on earlier studies. The study quantifies the investment needs at a national level based on the existing socio-economic conditions and government policies; future population growth or increase in wealth are not taken into consideration. Although thecost estimates include a reserve for sea-level rise and potential adaptation measures to counteract a higher flood risk for rivers, the damage estimates do not include the effects of the climate change.
The aim of the project is to assess the requirements for flood and coastal protection and estimate the cost of the required measures.
Climate scenarios are not considered
