The anniversary celebration on 15 June 2024 offers a varied programme for young and old: UBA experts from over 50 different disciplines will provide information on current key topics such as climate protection and climate adaptation, and offer a wide variety of programme items and hands-on activities for children and adults. More than ten organisations from the region will be presenting their work in and for Dessau. Visitors can generate their own electricity for soap bubbles, light and music with a bicycle power generator or go on a genetic search with a leaf collection. In addition to guided tours of the climate-neutral UBA extension building, which opened last year, and the noise laboratory, there will also be a musical and culinary programme. In addition, damaged textiles can be repaired on site by hand and with a sewing machine under supervision. The Federal Youth Project "We Care & Repair" will be offering to repair items of clothing brought along.
A highlight of the celebration will be the presence of Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke, who will officially open the anniversary celebration together with UBA President Dirk Messner and UBA Vice-President Lilian Busse as well as Robert Reck, Mayor of the City of Dessau. Fascinating interviews immediately following the opening with Reiner Haseloff, Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt, Steffi Lemke, Dirk Messner, Lilian Busse and Robert Reck will shed light on environmental and climate protection issues from various perspectives.
UBA President Dirk Messner said: “The anniversary celebration is a wonderful opportunity to look back together on the past 50 years and look ahead to the future, to present our work, engage in dialogue and celebrate together. On this day, we want to show all interested parties how we can overcome the challenges of climate change together. It is no longer just a question of getting a grip on one environmental problem or another with limit values or bans on certain substances. It is now about a complete transformation of society and the economy towards climate neutrality, in industry, agriculture, transport, buildings and cities.”
The anniversary celebration will take place on 15 June 2024 from 10:00 to 17:00 in and on the grounds of the UBA in Rosslau. Admission is free, pre-registration is not required.
