Information on the O3 exceedance table
The table shows the up-to-date number of days of ozone exceedances in the current year at the measuring stations of the German States and UBA.
Target values
To protect human health ozone concentrations in ambient air have to be further reduced in the next few decades. The target for 2010 was for the maximum daily 8-hour average to not exceed 120 µg/m3 on more than 25 days in a year (averaged over 3 years), EU Directives 2002/3/EC and 2008/50/EC). The long-term target is for exceedances to not occur at all. Exceedances of the long-term goal are already being documented.
Data made public
The German Environment Agency publishes tables of the preliminary, continuously recorded data recorded at its own stations and in the German States measuring network in order to provide the public with information about exceedances quickly and promptly.
Preliminary data and gaps in the data
This preliminary, continually collected data is reviewed, and corrected as necessary, by the competent authorities in the German States according to a European standardised procedure. The corrected data are decisive for a final evaluation of the ozone pollution situation. Besides the preliminary character of the measurement data one should keep in mind that there may be gaps in the data records. This can be due to failures in data transmission from state measurement networks to the German Environment Agency or even in transmission from an individual measuring station to the appropriate monitoring centre. Another cause can be a malfunction of the measuring instruments themselves.
